Manchester United linked with summer move for Christian Eriksen

As reported by The Star, Incoming Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has shown an interest in making Christian Eriksen one of his first signings.

However, the Red Devils could face competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur if they pursue the Danish playmaker.

The report claims that Ten Hag believes the 30-year old would be “the perfect signing to launch his revolution” at Old Trafford.

The pair are familiar with each other after Eriksen spent time training with the Dutchman’s Ajax side last year as he continued his recovery from the near fatal cardiac arrest suffered at the European Championship finals.

It was at the Amsterdam club where he began his career, winning three Eredivise titles between 2010 and 2013 before moving to the Premier League.

The former Spurs and Inter Milan midfielder joined Bretford on a short term deal in January and has been able to prove his fitness and quality while with the Bees.

He has made seven Premier League appearances for Thomas Frank’s side and scored one goal which came in their incredible 4-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

He also made a scoring return to the Danish national men’s side in March when he came off the bench to net a second half goal in a 4-2 international friendly defeat to The Netherlands.

That appearance also marked his 112th cap for his country bringing him closer to all time record caps holder and Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel who ended his international career on 129 appearances.

Not only would Eriksen add some much needed quality and experience to the Old Trafford midfield, he is likely to be available on a free transfer as his short term deal at the Brentford Community Stadium expires.

Who else is interested in signing Christian Eriksen?

According to the same report, Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing Eriksen.

The 30-year old spent six and a half seasons with the North London side between 2013 and 2020 and was part of the side that lost the 2019 Champions League final to Liverpool.

He left Spurs to join Serie A side Inter in January 2020.

His time at the San Siro was cut short but he was still able to lift the Italian league title in the 2020-21 seasons as well as reaching another European final.

Eriksen’s Inter lost to Sevilla in the 2019–20 UEFA Europa League final.
