Manchester United star set for few weeks on the sidelines after undergoing surgery for heart palpitations

Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui has undergone a minor precautionary corrective procedure after experiencing palpitations.

Club sources insist it is a relatively common condition and the full-back is expected to make a full recovery and be available for selection within the next few weeks. United are not putting an exact timeframe on Mazraoui's recovery but it is not expected to be as long as the two month timeline that circulated on social media.

The 26-year-old withdrew from the Morocco national team after being replaced by defender Victor Lindelof at half-time during the goalless draw with Aston Villa at the weekend.

Mazraoui's absence comes at a time when United are already without a trio of options in defence. Harry Maguire has been ruled out for a few weeks after he suffered a muscle injury in the Aston Villa draw at the weekend, while Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are both long-term absentees.

Shaw and Malacia are both hoping to return to action at some point this month, though United are mindful of rushing the pair back into action after such a long time on the sidelines.

There was at least some positive injury news this week, after French defender Leny Yoro posted an encouraging update in midweek. In his latest injury update, Yoro took to social media on Wednesday and uploaded a video of himself jogging on a treadmill along with the caption: 'on the way back.'
