United will feel they cannot afford another season of disappointment having largely underperformed in recent years.

Improvements are needed if the Red Devils are to close the gap on those above, and with that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest transfer news surrounding Old Trafford.

Torres update

United are not yet close to completing a move for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Pau Torres is another player they mentioned. From what I’m told, Pau would be open for a Premier League move even to Manchester United.

“There is a release clause around 60 million euros. This summer Villarreal could be open to discuss with Manchester United but at the moment but at the moment we are not yet at a stage to say Pau Torres is close.”

Nkunku offer

United are being backed to make a move for RB Leipzig forward Christian Nkunku.

Nkunku has been linked with Liverpool, but Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany is claiming United could make an offer next week.

The striker, who scored 20 goals this season, is said to have resisted contract talks, but he is still under contract until 2024.

The Red Devils are being tipped to land Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann this summer.

United could well offload number two goalkeeper Dean Henderson as he remains frustrated with a lack of playing time, and Lee Grant has retired.

Bachmann could be brought in as cover on a cheap deal, with Watford having suffered relegation to the second tier this season.

The 27-year-old has been capped 12 times at senior level for Austria.
