Manchester United ‘ramp up Antonio Rudiger effort’ as Edinson Cavani ‘attracts interest’

Manchester United are in the midst of an 18-day gap without a match, following last week’s Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Ralf Rangnick’s men now have just one focus until the end of the season - making the top four - and while they weren’t in action over the weekend, some of their rivals were.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur took advantage of their games in hand and picked up wins, meaning United slipped to sixth place.

The Red Devils are now four points behind fourth place and, having played a game more than Arsenal, leaves them with a lot to do if they’re to a secure a Champions League spot.

Rudiger efforts

United continue to be linked with a move for soon-to-be-out-of-contract Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger.

Rudiger is likely to leave Chelsea for nothing at the end of the season, with the Blues currently banned from agreeing new contracts.

The Red Devils are one of a number of teams to have been linked with player, and according to French journalist Ignazio Genuardi, Rudiger hasn’t made a decision, although United are said to have made their intentions known to the player.

Goalkeeper option

United are being linked with a move for Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist.

According to The Sun, United goalkeeper scout Tony Coton knows Siegrist from his time at Aston Villa and he has recommended the stopper ahead of this summer.

Siegrist is set to become a free agent ahead of next season, and the Red Devils could find themselves in need of a new back-up option, with Dean Henderson’s future unclear.

Cavani interest

Edinson Cavani is attracting interest ahead of this summer, when he could leave Old Trafford on a free transfer.

The veteran Uruguayan is out of contract this summer, and United are not expected to extend his deal again amid injury issues this season.
