Manchester United player ratings vs West Ham: Three 'dire' 3/10s as duo show why they need to leave in summer
How the Man Utd players rated in their Premier League defeat to West Ham on Sunday afternoon.
Rasmus Hojlund and Harry Amass struggled as Manchester United were defeated 2-0 by West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. Ruben Amorim made six changes from the midweek win over Athletic Club as Amad Diallo and Mason Mount both came into the starting line up. There were a couple of bright moments early on before West Ham took the lead when Tomas Soucek flicked the ball in after some great build-up play from Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
West Ham were the better side after the restart, and things went from bad to worse for United when Leny Yoro was forced off due to injury. The visitors soon piled on more misery when they added a second through Jarrod Bown after some dire defensive work from Manuel Ugarte.
It was another awful afternoon to forgot for Amorim and here is how we rated the United players in their latest Premier League defeat.
Manchester United player ratings vs West Ham
Altay Bayindir
Another unconvincing performance in goal. It was a reminder of why he is the second-choice goalkeeper and will be sold this summer. 4
Noussair Mazraoui
An uncharacteristic poor performance. He could have done better for the opening goal, but there was little he could do about the second. 4
Leny Yoro
He was not as effective in a central defensive role. He switched off for the Soucek goal and made some poor passes before his injury scare. 5
Luke Shaw
Another quiet display. He did not have much joy against the West Ham attack and was taken off shortly into the second half to protect him. 5
Amad Diallo
The bright spark in the United attack, but that wasn’t saying much. He forced a good save from Areola and should have had an assist for Rasmus Hojlund. 5
Manuel Ugarte
A laboured performance as West Ham dominated the midfield battle. He conceded possession in the build-up to the second West Ham goal. 3
Bruno Fernandes
He struggled to get a grip on proceedings and was wasteful with the ball. One of his worst performances of the season as he left frustration get the better of him. 4
Harry Amass
Another tough learning curve. He has struggled in the last two Premier League matches, and this was evidence that he needs to leave on loan this summer. 3
Kobbie Mainoo
He sent a dangerous cross into the West Ham box but did little else of impact. It is still hard to see where he fits into the current tactical set-up. 4
Mason Mount
The brightest United attacker and he might have earned himself a place in the Europa League final team ahead of Alejandro Garnacho. 6
Rasmus Hojlund
Another dire display. He hardly got into the match, and even on the rare occasions that he did, he was wasteful with the ball. He should have scored twice in the second half. 3
How Manchester United substitutes rated
Harry Maguire
He overcommitted for the second West Ham goal and left United wide open at the back. Offered some physical presence from set-pieces and went close with a header. 5
Victor Lindelof
An unenviable task as part of a makeshift United backline and he was also caught out of position as Bowen doubled the lead. 5
Patrick Dorgu
He made United a better side from the right wing and linked up well with Amad. A step in the right direction from him and played with a point to prove. 6
Alejandro Garnacho
He offered an improvement in attack but it wasn’t a high bar to beat. Sent a shot into the side-netting from a cross. 5
Christian Eriksen
He didn’t have much time to impact the match after he replaced Amad in the final stages. N/A
