Man Utd have suffered another injury setback with the EFL loanee set to return to the club for treatment.

Manchester United have confirmed another injury blow after young midfielder Dan Gore suffered a hairline fracture in his foot. The 20-year-old has returned to Carrington from his loan spell with Rotherham United for rehabilitation but is expected to return to the League One side before the end of the season.

It is the latest unfortunate setback for Gore, who also picked up an injury during his first game on loan with Port Vale last season which saw him miss the remainder of the season, before he suffered a freak shoulder injury during the summer.

Gore shone on his debut for Rotherham in a narrow defeat to Birmingham and will be monitored carefully by club staff as they look to avoid any further complications. The youngster has made two senior appearances for the United first-team and was named on the bench when they drew 3-3 with FC Porto earlier in the season.

United confirm latest injury setback

A club statement issued on Wednesday morning read: "Manchester United can confirm that Dan Gore has suffered an injury to a bone in his foot. The Academy will work closely with Rotherham United to support Dan to return as soon as possible. It is expected that he will be available to feature for The Millers again this season."

Speaking after the injury update, Gore added: “Having loved the start to my time here and been made to feel so welcome by everyone at the club, I am absolutely gutted to have picked up an injury. Everyone who knows me knows that I would play through any pain if I physically could but unfortunately, I need to take a few weeks out. I’ll be giving everything to get back as soon as possible to contribute to the team and be able to play in front of the fans again.”

Why Gore has returned to United

Rotherham hope Gore will only be sidelined for around a month, though United are being more cautious about his return and simply expect him to return before the end of the season.

Speaking in the week, Rotherham manager Steve Evans issued an update on the youngster and explained why he had returned to United for his rehabilitation process. “I think that four full-time doctors and eight physios tells you where he should be! We've done that with other loan players in the past. Their progress is quicker because they have more medical back-up on hand. He's in a good place there. The medical people say you can have a delayed reaction to it. It's unusual for that to happen but it can happen. We have to accept that.”
