Manchester United have finally received a positive team news update amid their ongoing injury crisis that saw 12 senior players miss the weekend defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Ruben Amorim was forced to make four changes to his starting line up for the trip to North London, while eight of the nine players on the bench had never made a competitive appearance for the club before.

United are set to be without both Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo for the remainder of the season, while Kobbie Mainoo is set for roughly six weeks on the sidelines. Luke Shaw and Mason Mount are the other long-term injury concerns, with most other players expected back in the coming weeks.

As well as all the injury issues, United were without two players due to illness at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, though they hope to welcome them both back across the next couple of matches.

Nothing serious

United were without both Leny Yoro and Christian Eriksen against Spurs due to illness, though Amorim was confident the duo would both return to action soon. Speaking after the defeat, the head coach issued an update on the pair and noted they would have to be extra careful with Eriksen due to his existing heart problem.

“It’s hard to know,” he said on Sunday. “Let’s wait a few more days. I think Leny and Chris were sick, so they will recover. Chris has the heart situation and we have to be really careful with that - it’s nothing about the heart! I’m just saying the heart rate has to be controlled because he has a fever. I think they will recover and the rest we will see. I think Kobbie is out and Amad is for sure out, for the season. I think weeks (for Mainoo).”

Amorim’s comments sparked fresh concern over Eriksen, though the Danish midfielder took to social media on Tuesday night to ease any fears he might be out for a prolonged period of time. "I just wanted to thank everyone for the get well messages I've been receiving after missing the Spurs game,” he posted on Instagram. “I picked up a virus like many people do at this time of year. Nothing serious and soon ready to get back to training."
