Manchester United looking to sell £35m flop after agent ruled out move to Premier League rival

He joined Man Utd four years ago but hasn’t been a success even under Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United are still looking to sell Donny van de Beek permanently in the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old has entered the final year of his current deal at Old Trafford, with the club looking to sell him this summer while he still retains a transfer value, rather than loan him out for another campaign.

Van de Beek started just four matches while on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt and the Bunesliga side opted against their option to sign him permanently for £9.5 million. If he leaves, United are looking to recoup as much of the £35 million they spent to sign him four years ago as possible, but given the optional fee offered to Frankfurt, they could stand to lose even more than £25 million on him.

During his four seasons at Old Trafford, the Dutch midfielder has made just 62 appearances across all competitions and last played a full 90 minutes when he was on loan with Everton in March 2022.

Another Premier League loan spell has already been ruled out, with agent Guido Albers primarily targeting a move to La Liga, Serie A or Ligue 1.

"Officially he is now going back to Manchester United and I am now in discussions with him," Albers told ESPN back in May. "Donny does not want to stay in the Premier League, also because United do not want that. That is not a good choice for him. He needs to return to a club that plays good football. In any case, he will not return to Ajax.

"My preference was to look in Spain, Italy or France. If I could get him in Spain or Italy that would be fantastic, at a club where he will play as a No.10 like he played at Ajax. You see that the Dutch are successful in a certain way in Spanish or Italian football."
