Manchester United won in the FA Cup on Friday night

Manchester United ended up having a quiet January transfer window. They have the chance to bring in some new signings again in the summer.

The Red Devils won 2-1 last time out against Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Joshua Zirkzee and Harry Maguire got their goals.

Ruben Amorim moved to Old Trafford earlier this winter after catching the eye at Sporting Lisbon. He was picked as their replacement for Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United eye Douglas Luiz

United are ‘keeping an eye’ on former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz at Juventus ahead of the summer, as per a report by Tuttosport. They are being linked with a swoop for the Serie A man later this year.

The Brazil international, who has 18 caps to his name, made the move to Italy last year. He has since made 20 appearances in all competitions this season, 14 of which have come in the league.

Luiz joined Villa in 2019 and became a key player for the Midlands outfit. He went on to play 204 matches altogether during his days at Villa Park and went on to find the net on 22 occasions.

He was snapped up by Manchester City in 2017 but never played for the first-team at the Etihad Stadium. He was loaned out to Girona twice to get some experience.

United could see Luiz as someone to boost their midfield ranks. If they signed him, he would inject more quality into their squad for next term.

What now for Manchester United?

United will want to hit some form now and rise up the table and they play Tottenham Hotspur next weekend. They didn’t play too well against Leicester last time out but they got the job done.

Speaking afterwards, Amorim said: "We have to believe it until the end but this has nothing to do with the time of Fergie. I think we have to do so much better, with the ball, without the ball. We didn't have any energy in the beginning, especially in the first half. Then in the second half, we played a little bit better with a little bit more speed and winning second balls. Then we managed to turn things around and it was a good result but not a good performance."

He added: "It's everything, it's the performance, it's the result. I'm not thinking about the end of the season now, because the final is at the end of the season. I don't care about that, I care about the moment. The moment is clearly not good enough. It's a good result. We move forward to the next stage. We have a week to prepare [for our next league game] but today was not a good day."
