Manchester United injury and team news: Ruud van Nistelrooy gives update on five players
Ruud van Nistelrooy has provided positive injury news on two long-term Manchester United absentees.
The Red Devils have had to cope with several defensive injuries this season, an issue which frustrated Erik ten Hag during his time at the club. But his long-term successor, Ruben Amorim, could have a few additional options to choose from in the coming weeks.

Hide AdLeny Yoro hasn’t played a competitive game since signing for United for a fee of up to £59m in the summer. But the teenager is recovering well from a fractured metatarsal he sustained in pre-season and took part in a section of team training on Wednesday ahead of the Europa League clash against PAOK.
“He’s been managed very well after his injury in pre-season, it was going to be a long one,” Van Nistelrooy said when asked about Yoro. “It’s a big moment for him, the first time he’s back in team training. We’ll get him back partially over the coming weeks and look to get him on board as quick as possible.”
Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw also haven’t played a minute this season, with the former’s knee injury ruling him out for nearly 18 months. As for Shaw, he has struggled with a calf issue and Ten Hag revealed in his final press conference that the left-back had suffered a setback in his recovery.
Asked about the defenders on Wednesday, Van Nistelrooy said: “Tyrell is the furthest, he’s part of team training for a couple of weeks now, full in team training, no restrictions. It’s good for him to plan game minutes, maybe in the Under-21s, we have to see.”

Van Nistelrooy, who is set to take charge of his third of four games in interim control, also revealed that Harry Maguire is ‘inside working on his rehab’ and said Marcus Rashford’s individual warm-up at Carrington on Wednesday was not ‘special news’.
Elsewhere, Christian Eriksen and Antony returned to team training and should be back for the PAOK game. Mason Mount could also be available having recently stepped up his recovery from injury, but there was no update on Kobbie Mainoo.
