Manchester United will need to spend their money wisely if they decide to sell Bruno Fernandes in the summer transfer window. It is understood the United captain is giving 'serious consideration' to a lucrative summer exit that would see him join Saudi club Al-Hilal next week.
United are understood to be 'relaxed' about the situation, though there is a growing feeling the 30-year-old could decide to leave the club after their failure to qualify for the Champions League. Fernandes was named the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for the fourth time after a season in which he netted 19 goals and provided 20 assists.
They would not only lose an exceptional player if he left the club, they would also lose someone who is a key dressing room figure and the current club captain. Whatever happens next, it brings into question the current leaders at Old Trafford and who might be an option to wear the armband.

2. Matthijs de Ligt
De Ligt is the youngest Ajax captain in history and also holds the record as the youngest captain in Champions League history. He has also captained the Netherlands at senior level and has bags of experience from a club career at Ajax, Juventus and Bayern Munich. He is probably the standout choice. | Getty Images
3. Harry Maguire
Maguire previously wilted under the pressure of captain's armband but has enjoyed a resurgence over the past year. He is a popular figure at Old Trafford again and few would begrudge him the opportunity to lead the team again if required. | Getty Images
4. Diogo Dalot
Dalot is the first wildcard pick. He is one of the most reliable members of the first-team squad and one of the few players certain to be at the club next season. He might not be the most complete player but he can never be faulted for a lack of work ethic and he sets the standard in training. | Getty Images
