Man Utd have received a worrying injury update ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City this weekend.

Luke Shaw will not be fit to feature for Manchester United in the FA Cup Final after Gareth Southgate admitted he was even a ‘long shot’ to be involved in the European Championship this summer.

The 28-year-old has been sidelined since he suffered a muscle injury against Luton Town back in February, but has been named in the provisional England squad for Euro 2024.

Southgate has named a 33-man training squad ahead of the tournament, with Shaw one of the surprise inclusions, given that he has not yet returned to United training ahead of their Wembley showdown with Man City this weekend.

Last week, Erik ten Hag confirmed Shaw was unlikely to be back in time for the FA Cup final on Saturday and now Southgate appears to have ruled him out altogether by admitting he could miss the European Championship.

“He is up against it. He missed a lot football,” Southgate told reporters on Tuesday afternoon. “The fact he's been our first choice in that position, we're probably giving him a bit longer. I've spoke with him but I have to say he's a long shot to make the final squad.”

It means there are just two United players in the provisional England squad for the tournament, with Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire also included. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Mason Mount have not been included.
