Manchester United take on Liverpool on Monday evening with Erik ten Hag’s side looking to bounce back from their opening two defeats in the Premier League.

The Red Devils faced Jurgen Klopp’s men in their first pre-season friendly in July and came away with a comfortable 4-0 win.

However, when it comes to league fixtures against the Reds, United have struggled since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, failing to beat the Merseyside club in their last eight attempts.

Last campaign saw a season to forget for the Red Devils. They finished sixth in the table with 58 points, their lowest in the competition’s history, while also conceding nine goals against Liverpool over both games.

The United faithful will be hoping their campaign gets back on track at Old Trafford on Monday with a win over Klopp’s side, who are also without a victory so far.

Despite their recent poor form when facing Liverpool, there have been some memorable results for the Red Devils against the Merseyside club since Ferguson retired in 2013.

With that being said, let’s take a look at United’s five best results against the Reds since Ferguson’s departure…

Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United | 17 January, 2016

A win against Liverpool, especially at Anfield, always makes for a good day for the Red Devils and this game was no different.

Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the game in the 78th minute. The ex-United forward fired home from close range and gave United the victory.

Marcus Rashford put in a fantastic display on this day to give the Red Devils a huge win over Liverpool. The Englishman scored two well-taken goals in the first half, a performance United fans will be hoping to see from him again soon.

This was a brilliant afternoon for Red Devils supporters, not just for the win over their rivals, but for several other factors.

Juan Mata was the star man for United, scoring twice, including an acrobatic second that secured the three points on that day.

To make things even better for Red Devils fans, Steven Gerrard was sent off for a cynical stamp on Ander Herrera just moments after coming on as a substitute.

Three goals against one of your biggest rivals is always fun to see, especially when the win was secured in the way it was during this match.

Anthony Martial burst onto the scene for United in what was his debut game. The Frenchman opened his Red Devils account with a fantastic finish with four minutes of normal time remaining.

Manchester United 3-0 Liverpool | 14 December, 2014

This was arguably United’s best result against Liverpool in the league in the post-Ferguson era.

A starting XI that didn’t feature the club’s strongest players, a clean sheet after a masterclass performance from David de Gea between the sticks and three well-worked team goals saw the Red Devils smash their rivals at Old Trafford.
