There have been 12 exits from Old Trafford in the 2024 January window.

Isak Hansen-Aaroen has moved from Manchester United to Werder Bremen in a permanent transfer on deadline day.

The youngster joins the Bundesliga side for an undisclosed fee after contract negotiations between United and the player broke down. The club refused to bow to Hansen-Aaroen’s wage demands, which United felt were unreasonable.

The Norwegian’s contract expires in the summer and United became increasingly convinced over the winter window that a permanent exit was in everyone’s best interests. The Red Devils would have received a compensation package for the Hansen-Aaroen had he left for free in the summer, but his deadline-day transfer to Werder Bremen secures a better financial deal for the club.

The part of the deal, United have included a high sell-on fee, potential add-ons and the opportunity to match any future bids from another club. The Red Devils also felt they have several talented underage players in similar positions and were willing to let the 19-year-old leave.

While Hansen-Aaroen has represented the first-team in pre-season, he has not been included in the matchday squad for a competitive game. The midfielder has been a mainstay in the Under-23s this season and has earned six Under-21 caps for Norway.

“Moving to Werder is the right step for me. I’m pleased that I’ve got the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga for such a big club,” Hansen-Aaron told Bremen’s website as the transfer was announced.

The player could make his debut for the club when they face relegation-threatened Mainz on Saturday, with Bremen currently sitting ninth in the Bundesliga.

“Isak is a very skilful player,” said head coach Ole Werner. “It's hard to get the ball off and has a good understanding of the game. He’s got a lot going for him already, but he’s got a lot of potential to get even better.”

The teenager becomes the second player to depart United permanently this window, with 10 players also departing in loan moves.
