The midfielder is expected to leave Manchester United on transfer deadline day.

Isak Hansen-Aaroen is set to depart Manchester United on transfer deadline day and join Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

The teenager has impressed at youth level and was offered a new contract at United, with his current deal set to expire in the summer. However, ManchesterWorld understands the club felt Hansen-Aaroen’s wage demands were unrealistic.

As it became increasingly clear that an extension would not be agreed, United grew more willing to let him leave in the mid-season window, so long as any fee received exceeds the compensation the club were set to earn in the summer.

Any club signing a player under the age of 23 on a tree transfer have to pay compensation to the former team, as would be the case for Hansen-Aaroen at the end of the season. But a winter transfer allows United to set more favourable terms, including a significant add-on price, a high sell-on percentage and the option of a buy-back clause in Hansen-Aaroen’s move to Bremen.

The Norwegian is highly regarded and has played a regular role for the Under-23s this season, but the club’s shifting strategy on selling underage talent means more youth-team players are departing. Mateo Mejia joined Sevilla in January, while Hannibal and Alvaro Fernandez have departed on loans which include options to purchase in the summer.

As for Hansen-Aaroen, the youngster has represented United in pre-season but has never been involved in a competitive first-team squad. The creative midfielder has been capped by Norway at various youth levels and has earned six Under-21 caps.

Bremen are currently sitting ninth in the Bundesliga and are unbeaten in six league games, a run that includes a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich two weeks ago. Hansen-Aaroen’s departure could be the only significant exit on deadline day, although there is the possibility that further youth-team players could leave on loan.
