Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed Aaron Wan-Bissaka is available for Wednesday’s Premier League match against Brentford.

The right-back started United’s three games prior to the international break but wasn’t involved in the squad that lost 2-0 to Newcastle United at the weekend. Wan-Bissaka missed out due to illness and, with three games in seven days, Ten Hag could use the extra options on the right of the back four. The former Crystal Palace man will be in contention with Diogo Dalot for a starting berth, despite United’s no.20 having a tough afternoon at St James’ Park at the weekend.

The Red Devils’ defeat in the North-East saw Newcastle overtake Ten Hag’s side in the table, and a top-four place suddenly looks less certain than it did a few weeks ago. A win over Brentford at Old Trafford will see United move back into third place, although they’ll have to manage without Casemiro on Wednesday.

The Brazilian is serving the third game of his four-match suspension, and United’s performances have markedly dropped when Casemiro has been absent from the side. Fellow midfielders Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen are also ruled out through injury, although the latter is closing in on a return as he continues to recover from the ankle issue which has ruled him out since January.

Alejandro Garnacho also won’t be involved through injury, while Tom Heaton will be out until the middle of the month with an ankle issue. With Heaton not involved, on-loan goalkeeper Jack Butland could be named on the bench once again.

As for Brentford, they’ll be without Kristoffer Ajer and Keane Lewis-Potter - both of whom are out with long-term injuries - while Vitay Janelt is expected to miss out with a knee problem. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Thomas Frank gave an update on Janelt, and ruled Frank Onyeka out of Wednesday’s match.

“Frank has a minor, minor injury,” he said. “Vita had the knee problem but very good news: it was a minor injury against Southampton and he was on the grass today which is positive. But it will probably be too early for Wednesday night. Frank will be out for Wednesday.

Currently in seventh in the table, the clash with the Bees will pose another difficult test for United. The London club have lost just five league matches all season, a tally only the division’s top three can better.

Ruled out: Heaton, Casemiro, Eriksen, Van de Beek, Garnacho (United); Ajer, Janelt, Onyeka, Lewis-Potter (Brenford).
