Man Utd host Wolves at Old Trafford in their first game of the Premier League season on Monday

Manchester United open their Premier League campaign against Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday night as they look to start the season with a win.

The Red Devils won both Premier League meetings between the clubs last year as Marcus Rashford scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at the end of December with Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho netting in a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford in May.

United will begin their second season under Erik ten Hag after finishing third in the Dutchman’s debut campaign while there will be a new face in the dugout for Wolves.

Gary O’Neil has joined the club on a three-year deal after Julen Lopetegui’s exit earlier this week. Ahead of the fixture, we have rounded up the latest injury news from both camps.

Manchester United

Ten Hag has confirmed that new signing Rasmus Hojlund will not feature on Monday night. Andre Onana and Mason Mount are both expected to be in the matchday squad, and when asked about Hojlund’s fitness Ten Hag said: “As we said previously, he had a small issue and he is not on the [same] levels our players are at in this moment. So now we have to train him. The prognosis is difficult to say. We are confident and we are positive.”

Tyrell Malacia, Amad and Kobbie Mainoo are also sidelined while goalkeeping duo Tom Heaton and Dean Henderson are also unavailable, meaning Onana is set to make his competitive debut for the club. Anthony Martial could make his return from a muscle tear after being involved in full training this week.

Wolves

The visitors are in good shape with Matheus Cunha the only doubt after he missed a couple of days training, although O’Neil is hopeful to have player available for selection.

Looking ahead to the game, O’Neil said: “The group have been working in a certain way under a different leadership for the last six weeks and now we have a game coming in three or four days against a very good side.

“There’s not loads of time to get them exactly where I want them to be, but I’m just trying to assess exactly where they are and what it feels like at the moment. As the time goes on and we progress, I’m very confident we can get the group to where we need them to be. It’s a big game coming really quickly so there’s no time to rest or settle in. We’re straight into it.”
