Erik ten Hag’s men also scraped past Omonia in the Europa League during the week, so they should be in good spirits heading into this one. Having said that, United have surprised with their performances at times this season, and they will be hoping they don’t take another step back here.

Ahead of the visit of Newcastle, who have scored nine goals in their last two games, winning both, United could get Anthony Martial back, with the Frenchman playing a key role this season.

“Anthony Martial can be [available] but we have to wait [to see] how he develops in the coming hours,” Ten Hag has said. Though, it’s not all good news, with Harry Maguire remaining out. “Maguire will not make this, but doesn’t take long,” Ten Hag added. “Maybe next week he will be back in the team training, or over the next week.”

Elsewhere, United will be without Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Donny van de Beek through injury, while Scott McTominay is suspended, and Martin Dubravka is ineligable to play against his parent club.

On the other side, Newcastle are without record signing Alexander Isak, who is close to a return but won’t make this one.

“Alexander Isak is making progress but he’s not available for this game,” Eddie Howe said in an update. “We’ve not picked up any new injuries.”

With that final comment in mind, Newcastle should be good to go aside from Isak, as well as the sidelined Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Ritchie, Karl Darlow and Emil Krafth. Shelvey is ‘very close’ to making his return, according to Howe, but he won’t make it back for this one.
