Man Utd could pick up £38m from selling surplus midfield duo as ‘talks open’

Manchester United are looking to sell several players in the coming weeks.

Manchester United are reportedly in talks with Real Sociedad about the possibility of Donny van de Beek joining the Spanish club.

The midfielder is among several first-team members Erik ten Hag has deemed surplus to requirements at United, with the Red Devils in need of a cash injection before further incoming transfers can be wrapped up. The arrival of Rasmus Hojlund could be completed this week, while Sofyan Amrabat has been identified as the next transfer target.

That’s why shifting players has become so important for United, and Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Tuesday night stating that Sociedad had opened talks with United over a deal for Van de Beek. “Clubs now discussing formula and terms of the deal. It will depend on conditions decided by United.” the Italian wrote.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail report United are willing to accept a bid of around £25m for Van de Beek, although Sociedad have raised concerns about the ex-Ajax man’s injury record.

The outlet add that Fred could also leave soon, with Galatasaray keen on signing the 30-year-old. The Turkish club saw an offer turned down in July but plan to return with an improved bid.

Fred was left out of United’s pre-season tour to the US and has been training at Carrington since. Despite playing 56 times last season for United, the Brazilian is another player Ten Hag is willing to sell, and transfer reporter Alfredo Pedulla claims United have lowered their asking price for the player from €20m (£17m) to €15m (£13m).

Elsewhere, Nathan Bishop is expected to complete his transfer to Sunderland this week, while Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing defender Brandon Williams.
