With the transfer of Andre Onana to Manchester United all but complete, the club will now shift their focus to the pursuit of Rasmus Hojlund, according to reports.

The Danish striker is believed to be Erik ten Hag’s preferred choice after United were priced out of moves for Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen. The Red Devils identified the addition of a new no.9 as their priority in the summer transfer window, yet the availability of Mason Mount and the developing David de Gea situation shifted those plans in the early weeks of the market.

But the Telegraph claim ‘attention will now turn’ to capturing Hojlund, who is the ‘priority target’. The £86m fee Atalanta are demanding for the attacker could be an issue, but that asking price is expected to drop.

Meanwhile, Onana’s transfer could be officially confirmed on Wednesday or Thursday, as per Fabrizio Romano. The journalist tweeted to say the Inter Milan goalkeeper will travel to the UK on Tuesday night to finalise deal.

Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio also claimed the ‘last details’ between the clubs were ironed out on Monday and Onana has ‘signed all documents’. Meanwhile, The Athletic report that the fee for the ex-Ajax man will be €51m (£44m) with a further €4m in add-ons.

Onana is expected to join up with the squad on their US tour and he could even be involved when the Red Devils take on Arsenal this Saturday in New York. United face Lyon in Edinburgh on Wednesday and will jet off to America following the match.

So far, Mount remains the club’s only summer signing and the purchase of Onana is expected to bring United to around the £100m mark ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. United will need to sell some of their current squad in order to finance moves for Hojlund and potentially Sofyan Amrabat, another player the club retain interest in.

Ten Hag is willing to part with Dean Henderson, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Alex Telles, Brandon Williams, Scott McTominay, Fred, Donny van de Beek, Anthony Elanaga and Anthony Martial in order to raise funds this summer.
