The Red Devils have five players who have expressed a desire to leave the club this summer. They are Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho. Four of the players spent time away on loan from Old Trafford last campaign.

United had hoped to sell Sancho to Chelsea but the Blues paid £5m to the Red Devils after backing out of their obligation to sign the ex-Borussia Dortmund man. Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, with a reported £40m option to buy included in the loan agreement.

Villa opted against triggering that but did, per earlier reports, float the idea of a swap deal with Ollie Watkins moving to Old Trafford and Rashford penning a permanent deal in Birmingham. However, the idea was rejected by Rashford as he had a preference to play for Barcelona.

Man Utd strike ‘verbal agreement’ for Marcus Rashford to join Barcelona on loan

Rashford, according to the latest reports, has got his wish to move to Barcelona. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported: “Marcus Rashford to Barcelona, here we go!

“Verbal agreement in principle between all parties involved with Barça planning for medical tests next days. Loan deal with buy option, details being finalised today then Man Utd will authorize his travel to Spain.”

The Athletic have also reported on the agreement, noting that talks between the parties are at the final stages with United agreeing to the idea of a move. A key detail provided by the outlet also notes that Barca will pay Rashford’s entire salary for the duration of his loan.

The forward is one of the highest earners at the club, and clearing his wage off the books is a big win for United. While they need player sales to fund further transfer activity, Rashford’s wage being paid by Barca could save the club between £10m to £14m.

What Ruben Amorim has said about Marcus Rashford

United have a limited budget after missing out on European football. They have signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and have agreed a deal with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo. Further incomings will depend on player sales.

Despite needing additions to their squad, manager Ruben Amorim has not been open to the idea of re-integrating Rashford. The player was dropped for the Manchester derby back in December and came out in the aftermath of the game expressing his desire for a new challenge.

"What I say is I couldn't put Marcus to see the way you're supposed to play football and to train the way I see it," Amorim said after his loan switch to Villa.

"And sometimes you have one player who is really good with one coach and the same player with another coach is different. I just wish the best to Rashford and Unai Emery, and they can connect because he's a very good player."
