Manchester United are eyeing a move for one of their January targets with an enquiry already said to have been made

Manchester United now officially have two new summer signings through the door at Old Trafford after they completed a deal for Diego Leon on Saturday.

The 18-year-old from Paraguay follows the arrival of Matheus Cunha last month while the Red Devils are edging closer to finally getting an agreement over the line for Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo.

Five players - Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sacho, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho - are seeking moves away from the club. Once those exits are agreed, it will give more funds for Ruben Amorim to further strengthen his squad.

The former Sporting CP boss has a number of areas he wants to improve this summer, including striker and possibly at goalkeeper. Andre Onana made a number of high-profile mistakes last campaign and the Red Devils have been linked with a number of goalkeepers - including the likes of Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez.

Man Utd ‘make enquiry’ for Brazilian goalkeeper

United have explored another goalkeeper option as they eye a move Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor. Goal in Brazil has reported that an enquiry has already been made by United for the player, who has a release clause of just £6m.

The 29-year-old impressed at the Club World Cup after keeping a clean sheet against Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain last month.

One of the Red Devils’ main driving factors in trying to sign the goalkeeper is due to his bargain release clause. Football Insider reported last month that United were looking to sign John Victor, with the report detailing how they had plotted a move for him back in January.

Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the goalkeeper previously but do not appear to hold a concrete interest currently.

Who is Man Utd target John Victor?

The 6ft 5in goalkeeper has spent the majority of his career in his homeland of Brazil. He joined the Sao Paulo youth academy before moving to Santos in 2011. In 2016, he signed his first senior contract but was third-choice at the club.

He spent eight years with Santos but only made 28 appearances for the side, as he had some loans away from the club - enjoying temporary spells with Portuguesa Santista and Internacional in Brazil and in 2023 he got a first taste of European football with a loan move to Spanish club Real Valladolid.

In January 2024, he made the move to Botafogo, penning a four-year deal. He has gone on to make 79 appearances for the top-flight Brazilian outfit, keeping 32 clean sheets and conceding just 66 goals.

The player’s agent, Pedro Gutierrez, said back in December there was a lot of interest in Europe ahead of the winter window. He said: "I've had a lot of phone calls from clubs in Europe asking about John and it's no surprise after what he's achieved with Botafogo.

"There has been interest from clubs in England, Germany, Portugal and elsewhere, but John would prefer to play in the best league in the world - the Premier League."
