Manchester United are preparing to return to Premier League action with the shadow of their ownership situation hanging over them.

The Red Devils could get new owners in the foreseeable future after the Glazers’ decision to seek new investment. Yet, it’s unclear whether it will be a full takeover or a smaller investment, although most fans will be hoping it’s the former given the unrest between the supporterbase and the Glazer family.

Any sale is likely to take at least a few months, but the reports have been coming in thick and fast, and with that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest news surrounding the takeover.

Glazers statement

Firstly, a reminder of the statement the Glazers made in regards to the possible new investment.

“The strength of Manchester United rests on the passion and loyalty of our global community of 1.1 billion fans and followers,” the Glazers said. “As we seek to continue building on the club’s history of success, the board has authorized a thorough evaluation of strategic alternatives.

“We will evaluate all options to ensure that we best serve our fans and that Manchester United maximizes the significant growth opportunities available to the club today and in the future. Throughout this process we will remain fully focused on serving the best interests of our fans, shareholders, and various stakeholders.”

Club value

The Raine Group, who are managing the sale of the club, value the Red Devils between £6billion and £7billion as per the Daily Mail, while Forbes say United are worth £3.8billion.

Some have claimed the Glazers have been unrealistic in their valuation, but United are the third most valuable club in the world, behind only Real Madrid and Barcelona, and there is likely to be interest.

Potential buyers

According to The Athletic, the Glazers held talks with potential Middle Eastern buyers while in Doha during the World Cup. Talks are said to have taken place with Qatari and Saudi Arabian investors.

Meanwhile, commercial giants Apple and Amazon have been linked with a move, though the Apple rumours have recently been shut down. Amazon continue to be linked, but there are reports they are more interested in investing in the NFL, potentially eyeing a bid for the Washington Commanders.
