Anthony Martial has praised the work ethic of Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo but does not count the Portuguese star as the best player he has shared the Old Trafford dressing room with.

The Frenchman was giving an interview to France Football, quoted by TalkSPORT, where he spoke about the great individuals he has played alongside in the Premier League.

The 26-year old has been at United since 2015 and has seen many greats of the modern game including Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Bastian Schweinsteiger and more at the club.

However, none of those iconic names topped his list and the player who did probably wont come as much of a surprise to many United supporters...

Anthony Martial’s best ever Man Utd teammate

In the interview, Martial first spoke about Ronaldo and said: “He’s super humble – and what a hard worker.

“We often speak when we are at the gym in the morning before going to training and I would watch what he was doing. That’s only logical, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo.”

He then added: “We have spoken about being genuine and so I can speak about Wayne Rooney.

“He’s the best player I have played with. He’s always playing for the team, always at 100 percent, no fuss. A monster. And a model as a footballer.”

Rooney is of course Manchester United’s all time leading goalscorer with 253 goals in all competitions and is sixth on the club’s all time appearances list with 559 between 2004 and 2017.

Martial and Rooney played together at Old Trafford for two seasons before the former United skipper left the club and returned to Everton.

He ended his playing career with Derby County in 2021 and was the manager of the Rams up until this year before leaving.

He is now coaching in the United States of America where he is in charge at Major League Soccer side DC United.

In the same interview, Martial went on to discuss his recent injury troubles and said: “For the last two seasons, I have regularly played injured. People don’t know about that. I couldn’t accelerate during the four months of the covid season. But Solskjaer told me he needed me, so I played. Given my game, if I cannot accelerate then it becomes very complicated.”
