Manchester United are weighing up their options ahead of the January transfer window.

As the end of 2023 approaches, the transfer rumour mill is working over-time to give fans lots to look forward to once the new year arrives. Summer provided plenty of action and blockbuster deals but January has plenty of potential as well as Premier League sides continue their search for new recruits to build the best possible teams.

Manchester United got their hands on some big signings during the summer but just like their closest league rivals, business is never really done. Erik ten Hag has some decisions to make regarding some senior players’ futures at Old Trafford, and that could dictate who the Reds sign in both January and the following summer.

Jadon Sancho is the most discussed exit-linked player but United have also been debating over the future of Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. Who they move on over the next few months could determine the calibre of players that arrive.

United are currently on the market for fresh defensive options and have been linked to Club America’s Sebastián Cáceres, who has been described as an ‘affordable target’ for Premier League clubs. Football Insider has reported that United are among several English teams keen on the Uruguay international after impressing on international duty.

Direct rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are said to be monitoring Cáceres’ situation, while Fulham and West Ham are also keeping an eye on him. The 24-year-old’s contract runs out in December 2024, at the end of the Mexican season, and it seems likely he will be moving on, as Club America are reportedly not looking for ‘an extortionate fee’ to part ways with him.

A deal worth between £6 million and £10 million is said to be enough for the centre-back, which is a great deal in this current transfer market climate for a senior international player.
