The shocking Premier League table since Ruben Amorim arrived at Man Utd is almost hard to believe

Manchester United have endured their worst campaign of the Premier League era

Manchester United’s Europa League campaign has somewhat papered over the cracks when it comes to their Premier League form - as the Red Devils lost for the 17th time in 36 games over the weekend.

On Sunday, struggling West Ham United ran out 2-0 winners at Old Trafford. For months now, the focus has been on the Europa League and using the competition as a means to qualify for the Champions League.

The Red Devils have just over a week before they face Tottenham Hotspur in the final in Bilbao. Ange Postecoglou’s side have also endured a miserable campaign in the Premier League - with the stark reality set to hit the losing side in Spain next week.

United have enjoyed some big performances in Europe and will hope to deliver another one that will allow them to put their wretched league campaign behind them. However, if they are to lose against Spurs, it will make the summer transfer window much more difficult as they battle to challenge back at the top.

What did Ruben Amorim say about his future at Manchester United?

After the loss to West Ham, which was United’s 17th of the season and their most in a league campaign since they were relegated from the top flight in 1974, Amorim admitted if he cannot fix things he would need to step aside.

He said: "We are losing the feeling that we are a massive club and it's the end of the world to lose a game at home. If we are not scared of losing a game as Manchester United and don't have that fear anymore, it is the most dangerous thing a big club can have."

He continued: "Everybody here has to think seriously about a lot of things. Everybody is thinking about the [Europa League] final. The final is not the issue. We have bigger things to think about.

"I'm talking about myself and the culture in the club and the culture in the team. We need to change that.

"It's a decisive moment in the history of the club.

"We need to be really strong in the summer and to be brave because we will not have a next season like this.

"If we start like this, if the feeling is still here, we should give the space to different people."
