Erik ten Hag could have one eye on Thursday’s Europa League trip to Spain.

Erik ten Hag may be tempted to make changes to his Manchester United team for Sunday’s game against Southampton.

The match falls in between the Europa League double header against Real Betis, with United holding a 4-1 lead from the first leg at Old Trafford. That convincing scoreline means the likelihood of Ten Hag making wholesale alterations is lessened, although with such a busy fixture schedule the Red Devils will most probably make at least a few changes.

Goalkeeper is one area where Ten Hag won’t switch his starter, even if he did have to defend David de Gea’s kicking once again in the build-up to the game.

At right-back, Diogo Dalot came off at half-time in midweek and it’s not clear if he’s picked up a knock. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is an option to replace the Portugal international in the starting line-up, should Ten Hag opt for a change.

Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof could come into the team at centre-back, although Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been stalwarts in recent months. On the left side, Luke Shaw is expected to start, with Tyrell Malacia an alternative option.

Casemiro and Fred seem the most likely pair in midfield, as Marcel Sabitzer is an injury doubt and Scott McTominay rarely starts. Bruno Fernandes was excellent on Thursday and should retain his place in the team.

Up front, Wout Weghorst and Marcus Rashford have started a lot in recent weeks, with one of Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho or Facundo Pellistri options in the third spot. With that in mind, here’s how we think United will line up at the weekend…
