Man Utd predicted XI vs Liverpool: Seven changes to line-up for Anfield clash - gallery

We suspect Erik ten Hag will select the same starting XI from last week’s Carabao Cup final.

Erik ten Hag is expected to reinstate several Manchester United players who were on the bench in midweek, for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool.

After a run of games against Barcelona in the Europa League and Newcastle United in last Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, Ten Hag understandably felt the need to rotate in midweek for the visit of West Ham United. The Red Devils won 3-1 at Old Trafford, but few of the players who came into the team impressed.

In fact, it was those dropped for the night who ultimately turned the game around, with Casemiro having a telling contribution after his introduction at half-time. Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford also came on around the hour mark, while Fred and Raphael Varane were chucked on in the latter stages. Therefore, it’s likely the aforementioned quintet will return to the team on Sunday as United head to Anfield in search of a first win there since 2016.

Ten Hag also has a dilemma at right-back, with the United boss tending to switch between Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot in recent weeks. The latter started against West Ham but has struggled against sides with direct wingers in recent weeks. With Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota or Cody Gakpo expected to play from the left for Liverpool, Wan-Bissaka seems the more likely option to start.

There’s also a question about how United’s front four will look, and whether Alejandro Garnacho should play after his superb display in midweek. Bruno Fernandes was better from the right on Wednesday, with Wout Weghorst also impressing in the no.10 role, while Rashford is an option to play up top. Yet that system makes it difficult to incorporate Antony, a player Ten Hag tends to start with.

And with all that mind, here’s how we think the Red Devils will set up at Anfield…
