Chelsea star Cole Palmer speaks on childhood as a Manchester United fan

Chelsea ace Cole Palmer may have found his home in Stamford Bridge, but he was a Manchester United fan during his formative years. In particular, he named Wayne Rooney as being an influence on him as a child.

Additionally, Palmer also touched upon his experience with leaving Manchester, having spent several years in Manchester City’s academy and in their senior ranks. He said moving to Chelsea helped him get out of his ‘comfort zone’, but still believes he is ‘getting used’ to life in London.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Telegraph, he said: “If [Rooney had] scored a goal on the weekend, I would go out and see if I could do it. My family still live in Wythenshawe, so when I’m going past the park, I always try to stop and remember it.

On leaving Manchester, Palmer said: “It was good to get out of the comfort zone. Manchester was same old, same old. So something fresh was needed, I think. By the time I went to the Euro Under-21 tournament last year, I realised it was good just to focus on football.

“I do try to take it in my stride, but you do sometimes have moments when you think, ‘Maybe 12 months ago none of this was like this, maybe I could go more places and do things.’ I do stop and think, ‘Wow, it has changed fast.’ I’m still getting used to it.”

Manchester United eyeing up move for Flamengo wonderkid Lorran

The right side of attack is becoming an area of contention for Manchester United. With Antony currently out injured, they do not have any naturally left footed players who can function as a right winger in their squad.

To fix this issue, the Red Devils could look to bring Lorran on board from Flamengo, according to a recent report from TBR Football. Despite being just 18 years of age, Lorran has already carved out a regular spot in the Brazilian outfit’s squad, being frequently used as an impact sub this season. So far, he has scored one goal and has notched up a single assist in 19 league games.

United aren’t the only club who have been linked with a move for the youngster - Brighton and Hove Albion, West Ham United, RB Leipzig, Atalanta and Marseille are all thought to be in the race alongside the Red Devils. As such, United may need to act quickly if they do not want to be beaten to the punch.
