Manchester United are lining up potential avenues to explore this summer when they look at bolstering their squad for next season. The Red Devils are battling for a top four finish but competition is fierce and they are currently chasing down Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, while also looking to keep a healthy cushion ahead of Newcastle United and West Ham.

United have been linked to a number of transfer targets ahead of the summer as we can likely expect a busy window from them, especially with the amount of exit rumours also doing the rounds. The closer we get to the end of the season, the more transfer links we will see as Erik ten Hag considers his options.

A recent report this week has claimed that United are 'in the front row' to sign Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan. That's according to Calciomercato, who report that while the 27-year-old's contract is due to expire next June, 'everything suggests' that he could leave the Serie A side this summer as no discussions of a new deal have materialised yet.

The report also claims that Dumfries earns €2.5 million (£2.1m) in wages per year, which breaks down to more than £40,000 per week. Inter were ready to offer a pay increase but negotiations reportedly broke down due to 'the high demand for wages from the agents'. No new progress has been made on this front, which could result in the Black and Blues choosing to cash in before running the risk of losing the midfielder for free.

Dumfries signed for Inter in 2021 and is a key player for his side but he could be looking for the next chapter in his career once this season comes to a close. Bayern Munich were also reportedly interested in the Netherlands international and enquired about his services in December but their contact did not 'go beyond simple interest'.

A transfer fee has not been mentioned but Transfermarkt currently value Dumfries at €30 million (£25.6m), and United may even be able to negotiate a cut price deal with his contract now ticking down.
