Man Utd icon Ole Gunnar Solskjær linked with move to league champions, club has been 'following him for years'

This Manchester United legend is being considered for a new role.

Bayern Munich are considering managerial replacements as the pressure continues to mount on Thomas Tuchel. The reigning Bundesliga champions are now eight points adrift of Bayer Leverkusen, who are yet to lose a single match this season.

Unless the Black and Reds drop significant points and Bayern can close the gap, Tuchel's position as manager could be under serious threat. A Leverkusen triumph this season will mark the first time in 12 years that a club other than Bayern have lifted the Bundesliga title. The stakes are monumentally high for both teams at the top of the table.

A number of reports have already linked the Bavarians to a new head coach, with title rival boss Xabi Alonso one of the figures being earmarked. Liverpool have been connected with their former midfielder as a replacement for Jurgen Klopp but Bayern also have their eye on him after his impressive work this season.

The reigning champions are keeping their options open though, and Manchester United icon Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also on their radar. According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Bayern are 'monitoring' the former Red Devils player and manager as a 'potential interim solution'.

The 'original plan' at the Allianz Arena is reportedly to stick with Tuchel until at least the end of the season and nothing concrete has been agreed between the two parties yet. However, club director Christoph Freund has been 'following the way of Solskjaer for years', who is currently a free agent and 'ready to take over a new project'.

After 11 years with United as a player — during which time he won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the Champions LeagueSolskjaer returned to Old Trafford in 2018 to manage the first team, having previously enjoyed a stint in charge of the reserves not long after retiring.

The 50-year-old was unable to win a trophy with United's senior team during his tenure in charge, and left the club in 2021, with the Reds announcing he 'will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family'. Solskjaer has not been in another management role since leaving United.
