The latest transfer headlines from Manchester United ahead of the 2024/25 season

Manchester United are currently in talks with Rangers over a deal to offload youngster Hannibal Mejbri after a frustrating three-year stint at Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old midfielder was signed from the AS Monaco academy in the summer of 2019 in a deal worth in the region of £4m which also included a further £4m in performance based add-on fees.

The midfielder, who starred for France U16 and U17s before switching allegiances to Tunisia, quickly progressed to the U23 team despite being only 17 and was even awarded his debut on the final day of 2020/21 season in a 2-1 victory over Wolves.

He made a further two Premier League appearances in the season that followed under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before being handed a crucial opportunity to impress on loan at Birmingham City in the Championship. The Tunisian played 41 times and showed great promise but continued to remain on the outskirts of the first team squad as he made just five appearances under Erik ten Hag before linking up with Sevilla on a six-month loan spell.

At 21, Hannibal will still feel he has a bright future in the game but it is suspected by TeamTalk that Manchester United are open to the idea of loaning the youngster with an obligation for a permanent transfer fee.

Rangers, who missed out on the Premiership title last season are aiming to build a young and hungry squad under Philippe Clement, but are unsure whether they can meet Manchester United’s demands of £7m at the end of the loan deal.

Meanwhile, Glasgow World understands that the Light Blues’ rivals Celtic are watching the situation closely as they also ponder the idea of moving for the 27-time Tunisia international.

Manchester United consider move for midfielder which could trigger high-profile sale

Manchester United are in the market to sign a central midfielder this summer, which could trigger the sale of Scott McTominay to Fulham, according to Football Insider.

The Red Devils have already rejected an offer of £17m earlier in the summer for the Scotsman but are open to the idea of selling the academy graduate once a replacement has been acquired. As it stands, the outlet understands that names such as free agent Adrien Rabiot, Youssouf Fofana of AS Monaco, PSG’s Manuel Ugarte and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi are all being considered at this time.

The fact Rabiot is without a club and his experience at international level, makes him the club’s priority target at this moment, but the other trio could all be considered if the player’s personal wage demands are too high for the Red Devils.

Manchester United are bracing themselves for an improved offer for McTominay in the coming days and it is expected that Marco Silva will now ramp up his efforts after securing the services of Emile Smith-Rowe from Arsenal in a club-record £27m plus £7m in add-ons.
