Man Utd get huge Rasmus Hojlund fitness boost ahead of Liverpool FA Cup clash

The Manchester United striker has missed the last four matches with a muscle injury.

Denmark head coach Kasper Hjulmand has appeared to confirm that Rasmus Hojlund will start Manchester United's FA Cup clash against Liverpool on Sunday.

Hojlund has been out of action since suffering a muscle injury in the days before United lost 2-1 at home to Fulham last month. The 20-year-old striker has missed the last four matches and been sorely missed during a run of two defeats in three Premier League games.

United did progress past Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup during that spell and welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford in the pick of the quarter-final fixtures. Erik ten Hag suggested last week that Hojlund could feature this weekend and when asked about the potential for an international call-up, Denmark head coach Hjulmand seemingly confirmed the striker will play some part.

"It is clear that Rasmus will play on Sunday against Liverpool and must get through the game well," Hjulmand told Danish outlet Campo.dk on Tuesday. "We expect that. We are in contact with United. I have spoken to Erik, and we expect that to happen. But it is clear that he has to get through the game, and there must be nothing on the other side for that [an international call-up] to be possible."

The return of Hojlund will be a massive boost for United, who have sorely missed the Dane's goals and hold-up play. In his absence, and with Anthony Martial also out after undergoing surgery in January, Ten Hag has been without a natural No.9.

United may also be boosted by the returns of Mason Mount and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who were both involved in full first-team training earlier this week. It is unclear whether either will be available in time but Ten Hag did suggest they and Maguire could be involved last week.

A club statement read: "Manchester United's squad has been boosted by the welcome return of Aaron Wan-Bissaka ahead of Sunday's Emirates FA Cup tie against Liverpool at Old Trafford. The defender was pictured on the training pitches at Carrington on Tuesday morning, along with midfielder Mason Mount, who has also been absent for the Reds of late."
