Latest transfer news emerges regarding this former Manchester United man

Former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria is poised to re-join Benfica. The Argentina international is leaving Juventus this summer for a new challenge elsewhere.

According to reporter Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, he is ‘set’ to move to Portugal. Negotiations are at the ‘final stages’ and he will pen a contract until 2025.

Romano has recently claimed that Inter Miami have been keen on luring him over and Sergio Busquets over to America following their eye-catching signing of Lionel Messi. However, it appears the player will be staying in Europe for the time being.

United landed Di Maria back in 2014 and his arrival sparked big excitement among their fans. However, he struggled to make an impact during his time at Old Trafford. He spent only a single year in the Premier League and found it hard to adapt to life in England.

Prior to his move to Red Devils, he had started his career in his native country at Rosario Central before moving over to Benfica and Real Madrid as a youngster. He spent four campaigns with the latter and was a hit in La Liga, firing in 37 goals in 194 matches altogether.

Despite penning a bumper five-year contract at United and being handed the famous number seven shirt in the procress, he was allowed to head out the exit door after just 12 months after PSG came calling. He stayed in the French capital for seven years and won the Ligue 1 title five times before joining his current club Juventus last July.

Now 35-years-old, Di Maria played a key role in Argentina’s World Cup win in Qatar last winter and scored in the final against France. He is now close to heading back to Benfica as he looks to prolong his playing days for as long as possible.
