Manchester United now know their opponents for the Europa League Round of 16, and there will be another trip to Spain.

The Red Devils progressed to the knockout stage of the Europa League with a hugely impressive win on Thursday night, defeating Barcelona 2-1 at Old Trafford and 4-3 on aggregate. Robert Lewandowski put the La Liga leaders ahead, but United rallied back to win thanks to well-taken goals from Fred and Antony.

Their reward is another trip to Spain, where they will face an impressive Real Betis side, who have performed consistently well in La Liga under Manuel Pellegrini. Betis re-enter the competition at this stage having won their group, allowing them to miss the play-off round. Betis didn’t lose a single game in their group stage, despite sharing a group with AS Roma, as well as Ludogorets and HJK. Pellegrini’s men are currently fifth in La Liga, four points behind Atletico Madrid in fourth.

Interestingly, the two sides have never met competitively, setting up an intriguing tie between two sides fighting for Europe in their respecitve divisions. Though, they did meet in a friendly during the winter break, and Betis won 1-0 on that occasion at Benito Villamarin, albeit many of the World Cup stars were not present.

The ties will be played on March 9 and March 16, with no break between the two legs.

Elsewhere, Arsenal have been drawn against Portuguese giants Sporting CP, while Juventus have drawn Freiburg. Other potential competition favourites include Roma and Real Sociedad, who play each other in the next round, with Sevilla taking on Fenerbahce.
