Manchester United could turn to PSG star Marco Verratti in a bid to bolster their options in midfield.

The state of United’s midfield came under intense scrutiny after the 2-0 defeat at Tottenham on Saturday evening.

Casemiro, Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes started but Erik Ten Hag’s three in the middle of the park but were no match for the impressive Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in North London.

United have been trying to fund new arrivals in midfield with Donny van de Beek not involved at Spurs as he nears the exit door while Scott McTominay has been the subject of interest from West Ham.  Fiorentina’s Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat has been a target for Ten Hag all summer but United could now face competition from Liverpool for his signature according to the latest reports.

Now Verratti’s name has been thrown in the mix by French outlet L’Equipe. The Italian international is seemingly on his way out of PSG with a move to Saudi Arabia looking likely. But with no deal finalised with Al-Ahli, United have been suggested as a possible destination for the 30-year-old who has 55 caps for his country, as have Bayern Munich.

Elsewhere, Corriere dello Sport reports another man on United’s radar this summer, Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, has now made it clear he wants to join Inter Milan.

The Serie A giants have not yet firmed up their interest but appear to be in pole position - United’s moves in defence complicated by Harry Maguire’s decision to turn down a £30million move to West Ham after a fee was agreed between the clubs.
