It has been the source of much debate within the fanbase but, with a number of Marc Skinner’s Manchester United side out of contract this summer, fans are wondering how the squad may look this time next year.
While key midfielder Ella Toone has already extended her stay until 2026, some of United’s star players will be free to negotiate with other clubs in little over six months, though the head coach has called for patience, insisting contract renewals take time and that the club are working hard to complete deals for a number of players.
Here is a complete list of every player who’s contract expires in the summer, including if they have an optional one year extension.

5. Hayley Ladd
The Welsh midfielder is a fan favourite and has performed well alongside Katie Zelem in the engine room. Her contract expires in the summer, but there is an option to extend by a year - which you would expect to happen. | Manchester United via Getty Images Photo: Manchester United via Getty Images

6. Lucy Staniforth
The former Birmingham City midfielder has bags of talent but seems unable to tie down a first team spot. She will be approaching her 31st birthday in the summer and may opt to review her options, with no option for a further year included in her deal. | Manchester United via Getty Images Photo: Manchester United via Getty Images

7. Vilde Boe Rise
The future of the Norwegian midfielder is an interesting one. She’s made an impact when offered opportunities in the cup (she has three goals in three games) but has spoken about her frustration at her lack of game time in the WSL. 8. Alessia Russo
The biggest contract worry for Man Utd will be that of star striker Alessia Russo. The 23-year-old has remained tight lipped, while head coach Skinner has insisted contract negotiations take time and that the club are “working hard” to tie Russo down. But with Champions League winners Lyon circling, an ambitious Russo will want to see the club challenging for the WSL title - and winning it - sooner rather than later. | Manchester United via Getty Images Photo: Manchester United via Getty Images
