“I’m absolutely delighted to sign for Manchester United. It’s a huge club with a lot of history and I cannot wait to get started" said Watson, who has three goals in four appearances for the Scotland national team.

"I’m really excited to learn and to play alongside some great players. I’ll give everything to this team and I’m looking forward to pulling on the red jersey" she added.

The midfielder already has experience in the UEFA Champions League having scored for Rangers last year in their qualifying tie against Benfica and made her senior Scotland debut against Australia earlier this year before scoring a brace just four days later in Scotland’s 4-0 win over Costa Rica.

A long term target for Manchester United boss Marc Skinner, the head coach was delighted to confirm the capture of Watson, saying: “Emma is an extremely exciting young talent who will add energy and enthusiasm to our squad. Emma plays with a maturity beyond her years and arrives in Manchester with international and Champions League experience. We look forward to watching Emma continue her development within our team, over the coming seasons.”
