Man Utd 'willing' to pay blockbuster £52m for gem Ruben Amorim admires & who Jose Mourinho called 'exceptional'

Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Real Madrid wonderkid Arda Guler this summer as they look to assemble a new-look team which can once again compete at the top end of the table.

Sunday’s recent 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United means The Red Devils are already heading for their worst points tally of the Premier League era and as things stand the club are currently on course for their worst top-flight campaign since relegation in 1974. It puts increased importance on Thursday’s showdown with Lyon and only amplifies the fan’s desire to see plenty of reinforcements in the summer.

Who is Arda Guler?

Arda Guler is a 20-year-old Turkish international, who currently plays his football for Spanish champions Real Madrid. He was born in Altındağ, Turkey and was scouted by Fenerbache in 2019 after five-years with local side Gençlerbirliği.

Guler is a talented attacking midfielder, with the ability to also thrive on the wing. He burst onto the scene in the Super Liga in 2021 at 16 and became the youngest goal-scorer in the top-flight later that season just three weeks after turning 17.

Overall, he scored nine times and assisted 12 times in 51 appearances across all competitions whilst winning the Turkish Cup in the process and also competing for the league title.

He joined Real Madrid in 2023 and has already got his hands on the La Liga title, Supercopa de Espana and most notably the Champions League. In his first term, he registered six goals in 10 league appearances while he has an overall record of nine goals and seven assists in 47 outings across all competitions with many of those coming from the bench.

Why Man Utd are interested in Arda Guler

Ruben Amorim is a coach that holds a strong reputation of getting the best out of young players as he has proven at Sporting Lisbon with the likes of Geovany Quenda, Goncalo Inacio, Ousmanne Diomonde and Nuno Mendes.

Guler is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Europe, but he has found regular starting minutes hard to come by amid competition from Vinicius Jnr, Rodrygo and Endrick among others. United could offer the player regular minutes and an important starting role at one of most well supported teams in the world.

“Arda is showing great personality and exceptional quality. To play at that club, personality is crucial. Players must internalize that they are good enough to play there. They can't be afraid," José Mourinho said, via Bein Sport.

While Carlo Ancelotti has also sang his praises: “Arda Güler showed his potential, his great ball control .He reads the game brilliantly and I'm happy with his impact.”

Spanish outlet Fichajes understands United are huge fans of Guler, who they believe can rejuvenate their frontline. The report adds that Amorim is a big admirer of the player and will push the club to make an offer. Meanwhile, an earlier report just this week from the Spanish outlet claimed United would be willing spend upwards of £52m to get the deal done.
