Man Utd star offered mega-money contract - and potential summer move could be all Mo Salah's fault

Bruno Fernandes has been linked with a blockbuster move away from Old Trafford

Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes is believed to be the subject of interest from Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal.

Give Me Sport understands the Riyadh-based outfit are determined to make a real statement of intent on the transfer front this summer as they look to add to the existing big name stars such as Ruben Neves, Alexander Mitrovic, Kalidou Koulibaly and Joao Cancelo to build another title winning team after finishing at the top of the table in 2024.

Fernandes signed for the Red Devils in 2020 and has been the team’s top performing player for nearly half a decade with 98 goals and 85 assists in 285 appearances across all competitions. He’s got 19 goals and 18 assists in 52 appearances this season and has been one of the few standout performers in what has been a grim season domestically for the Old Trafford club.

Summer move could be all Mohamed Salah’s fault

The report from GiveMeSport indicates Bruno Fernandes is now considered to be Al-Hilal's priority target this summer after discussions regarding a move for Mohamed Salah failed to materialize. The Red Devils star has been sent a non-binding three-year contract offer worth a mega £65m per season.

Meanwhile, Salah, who is currently on course to win the Premier League Golden Boot, recently put pen to paper over a new two-year-contract at Anfield after rampant speculation linking him with a free transfer to the Middle East in the summer. Al-Hilal have money to spend as they are claimed to have set aside £510m to help pay for Salah’s wages over three years at a staggering £170m a year.

With Salah no longer an option, Al-Hilal are keen to bring in a superstar ahead of the Club World Cup tournament in June, and could be prepared to offer a British record transfer fee to get the deal done for Fernandes. The United ace is not believed to have any release clause in his contract at Old Trafford, but any potential failure to secure European qualification for next season could make the Portuguese international consider his options.

Ruben Amorim has already issued frank response to Bruno Fernandes transfer talk

United head coach Ruben Amorim told reporters that the club would not be selling their best players in the summer. The former Sporting boss said via the club website: "No, it's not going to happen. So we want the best players to continue with us. He's 29 [30], I think, but he's still so young because he plays 50, 55 games every season. Between assists and goals, he’s there for 30 [of them], at least. So he's the type of player that we want here, he's not going anywhere."

When pressed on concerns regarding profit and sustainability, he added: “We are in control of the situation. And I feel that he's really happy here, especially because he understands what we want to do.

"And then I think he's one more supporter of Manchester United and he really feels it. Sometimes the frustration that you see, everybody sees and says that maybe it's not a good thing in a captain. It's a sign that he wants this so bad. So this is the kind of player that we want, and he's not going anywhere because I already told him [so]!"
