After ending the year in the top three and just two points behind second placed Arsenal, it would be fair to say 2022 has represented a real year of progress for Marc Skinner’s Manchester United side.
While the game as a whole will look back on the year as a historic one for the women’s game, United may very well look back on the last 12 months themselves as the moment they became serious contenders for the WSL title.
But what do the numbers say?
While Lionesses’ stars Alessio Russo, Mary Earps Ella Toone understandably take the bulk of the media limelight, a number of United stars have been pivotal to the undoubted progress made this calendar year at Leigh Sports Village - and the numbers prove it.
Here is Man Utd’s season in numbers, including highest rated player, top scorer, top assiters and loads more.
1. Highest average rating
According to FotMob, Spanish right back Ona Batlle has been United’s top performer this term with an average rating of 7.84 making her the top rated player in 2022.

3. Most goals scored in a game
While Alessio Russo, Katie Zelem, Maya Le Tissier and Ella Toone have also scored two in a game throughout 2022, only Leah Galton has achieved the same feat twice. The 28-year-old forward scored a brace against Birmingham City in January and then repeated the trick with a double against Reading in March.
4. Total league goals scored
Marc Skinner’s side have scored a total of 50 WSL goals in 2022, scoring 26 between January and May and 24 between August and December.
