Manchester United are eyeing a double after they claimed the U18 Premier League North title on Tuesday afternoon.

Adam Lawrence's side secured the title thanks to a 2-1 away win over Wolves, which lifted them out of reach of local rivals Man City, who have still three games in hand.

A first-half brace from striker Gabriele Biancheri was enough for the three points required to cap an extraordinary season which has seen the young Reds lose just once in the league campaign and witnessed an emphatic 9-1 win over Liverpool earlier this month.

United took the lead after 11 minutes when Biancheri finished off a well-worked passing move, but Wolves were level eight minutes later through Connor McLeod. It didn’t last long though, as Biancheri netted another four minutes later to restore his side’s lead and put them back on course for the title triumph.

Lawrence’s side now have 59 points from 22 matches played, while second-place City can now only reach 58 points during the 24 game league campaign.

It marks the first time United have won the U18 Premier League title since the 2017/18 season, with a squad that featured nine future first-teamers in the shape of Teden Mengi, Brandon Williams, Matej Kovar, Ethan Laird, Ethan Galbraith, Dylan Levitt, James Garner, Tahith Chong and Mason Greenwood.

As victors of the northern title, United will face the winners of the southern title at the end of the season to decide the overall champions in a play-off. That looks likely to be Chelsea, who are currently top of their section and have three games in hand over second-placed West Ham.

There could be even more reason to celebrate next week, as the U18s go in search of a famous double when they face Man City in the Premier League Cup final. The final takes place on Tuesday 23 April at Leigh Sports Village and tickets are free.
