Man United still have extraordinary transfer pull as 20-goal striker 'keen on' Old Trafford move

Manchester United are targeting big transfer targets ahead of a potential summer overhaul.

Manchester United have a lot of business to consider this summer as they look to push on from another disappointing season. The Red Devils are struggling to keep up with the top half of the Premier League table and are currently 14th in the standings, behind the likes of Brentford, Fulham and even Crystal Palace, who were once involved in relegation discussions.

A summer overhaul is expected at Old Trafford this summer. Several players are approaching the end of their contracts but others have also been linked with permanent exits. United are considering options for surplus players including the likes of Antony, who is on the radar of Juventus.

The club are said to be looking to earn in the region of €50 million (£41m) through the sale of Antony. While it will be a hefty loss on the original £86 million they forked out, it will add some crucial cash to their funds as they consider new attacking options.

United’s goal return in the Premier League this season has been a cause for concern among fans and professionals alike. With just 33 goals on the board so far, they are significantly trailing to the mega numbers scored by the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Man United still boast extraordinary transfer pull

Despite two disappointing seasons in a row, United still have a huge presence on the transfer market. Their rich history means they will always be one of the most sought-after Premier League destinations, which is evident in the top players they have signed in recent years, plus the interest shown ahead of the summer.

One of United’s main targets to improve their attack is the impressive Victor Osimhen. The Nigeria international has been admired by many Premier League teams over the years, but a move away from Napoli never really looked like materialising.

However, as he is currently on loan with Galatasaray, reports are spreading over his potential exit from Italy this summer. With 20 goals and five assists in 27 appearances this season for the Turkish side, clubs are once again flocking for his signature.

United are among those looking to sign him and according to Fabrizio Romano for GiveMeSport, Osimhen is ‘keen on a move’ to Old Trafford. Even with their undesirable Premier League position, the Reds are still an attractive location for the biggest names on the planet, which is certainly something the club and fans must enjoy in spite of everything else.

Will Man United sign Victor Osimhen?

Whether United will succeed in their pursuit of Osimhen this summer remains to be seen. According to Calciomercato, the club are preparing for a transfer ‘revolution’, as Amorim is said to be unsatisfied with a bulk of the players on his roster.

Rasmus Hojlund is a glaring example. Branded as a ‘disappointment’ by the Italian outlet, it claims that the 2023 signing has not convinced Amorim of his ability and could therefore be used as a bargaining chip in United’s summer business.

The report suggests United could table the offer of €40 million (£33m) plus Hojlund to Napoli, in attempt to finally sign Osimhen. The 26-year-old’s relationship with Gli Azzurri has deteriorated and the club are now looking to move him on.

Last year, Napoli had been looking for €150 million (£123m) for Osimhen, but reduced their asking price amid lack of interest. With his contract due to expire in 2026, the Italians are expected to slash the fee once again. Having reportedly already lowered the price to €81 million (£67m), it’s expected to be further reduced to €75 million (£62m) at the end of this season, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Whether Napoli will accept Hojlund as part of the deal, or whether United are willing to pay the full amount is uncertain. But one thing that fans can be sure of is the club’s huge status as transfer giants, even when results are going far from perfect.
