Club chief drops 'hotly-debated' verdict on £62m Man Utd target as race 'well and truly open'

Manchester United are interested in signing a statement new striker this summer.

Manchester United are on the market for a marquee forward signing and the rumours are heating up as we approach the summer transfer window. Victor Osimhen is back in the headlines as the media speculates his future, potentially away from Napoli.

TEAMtalk recently reported that the 26-year-old is ‘keen on a transfer’ to Old Trafford but other clubs are also heavily interested in signing him at the end of the season. The outlet has also debunked a recent report claiming Osimhen’s move to United is ‘95 percent completed’, with the Red Devils reportedly ready to trigger his €75 million (£62m) release clause.

The race to sign Osimhen has been described as ‘still well and truly open’. Arsenal and Chelsea have also previously been credited with interest in the Nigerian superstar, who is currently on loan with Galatasaray.

Osimhen has been one of the most clinical goalscorers in Europe in recent years. During his loan spell in Turkey this season, the 26-year-old has 25 goal involvements in 29 games. His total for Napoli is 76 goals and 12 assists in 133 appearances for the Italian powerhouses.

Victor Osimhen transfer situation

Amid the speculation over whether Osimhen will end up in United red next season, Napoli chief Giovanni Manna has dropped comments of his own about the forward’s future. He is hoping to find a swift resolution to the ongoing and widely-speculated saga.

“Victor is always going to be a hotly-debated topic and not just on the transfer market,” Manna told Sky Sport Italia. “He is an appetising player for clubs, he has a clause and everyone knows this, we are working to find a solution as quickly as possible, so that we can avoid what happened last year.”

Ruben Amorim on lack of Man United goals

United are eager to sign a new attacker to aid their lack of goals this season. As the Red Devils currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, they have found the back of the net on just 33 occasions.

Ruben Amorim addressed his side’s recent struggle in front of goal following their narrow defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

He said: “It was the biggest difference of the game, they scored and we didn't. We had the opportunities to score, then in the first half we pushed a little bit harder. We suffered in some transitions trying to get a result, but in the end they scored and we didn’t.

“We need to put the ball in the net because we had some chances, we created some chances which is the hardest part. In some games we are there near the box but we don’t create chances. Today we created the chances but we need to score to win games.”
