Manchester United suffered Wembley heartbreak at the weekend, losing 1-0 to Chelsea in the FA Cup Final as Sam Kerr’s 69th minute goal condemed them to a narrow defeat.

United enjoyed the better of the opening 45 minutes but saw the introduction of Danish international Pernille Harder change the course of the game as Emma Hayes’ side lifted their third FA Cup in succession.

Red Devils head coach Marc Skinner was in bullish mood in his post-match press conference, stating his side “will lift trophies” in the near future and, as he aims to build a squad capable of competing with Europe’s elite, ManchesterWorld understands he has targetted the signing of Dutch international Esmee Brugts.

Still just 19-years-old, Brugts has reportedly indicated to PSV Eindhoven that she is ready to move on in the summer with her contract coming to an end and United will make a move for the 15 times capped Netherlands star this summer.

They face stiff competition from a number of other clubs though with Wolfsburg, Paris St-Germain, Frankfurt and Women’s Super League rivals Manchester City all holding interest in the winger.

The club have already confirmed the capture of one teenage star with the pre-contract capture of Evie Rabjohn from Aston Villa, while they are also reported to hold an interest in Rangers and Scotland youngster Emma Watson. However, despite Brugts’ age, she would be seen as a player who could make an impact at first team level immediately.

Born in Heinenoord, Brugts is widely seen as one of Europe’s top emerging talents and was included in the Netherlands squad that reached the quarter finals of the European Championships last summer. She already has four international goals, most notably scoring a 93rd minute winner in a World Cup qualifying game with Iceland in 2022.

It is set to be an intriguing summer for United with several first team stars out of contract in the summer. Skinner has also led his side to UEFA Champions League qualification for the first time and will know he needs to add quality throughout his squad as they aim to compete in Europe’s elite club competition.
