Harry Redknapp has suggested this bold ‘short-term’ fix for Manchester United.

Harry Redknapp has suggested an outlandish strategy he believes Manchester United should deploy for the remainder of the season to fix one of their glaring issues.

The Red Devils have struggled in front of goal this season and their form in the Premier League has suffered. Ahead of their clash with Wolves, Ruben Amorim’s side are 14th in the table, ten points adrift of the top ten.

With just 38 goals on the board so far, United have one of the lowest goal returns in the league. Only the bottom four teams and Everton have scored fewer goals than the Red Devils this campaign, highlighting the club’s need to invest in new attackers once the summer transfer window opens.

In the meantime, Redknapp has suggested an approach Amorim could opt for to keep things ticking over until the end of the season.

Harry Redknapp suggests new Harry Maguire role at Man United

After an explosive midweek performance against Lyon, United booked their place in the Europa League semi-finals. A sensational comeback in extra time saw the Reds rise from being 4-2 down in the 109th minute, to winning the clash 5-4.

An emphatic goal in the dying embers from Harry Maguire punched United’s ticket into the semis, shattering the hearts of the travelling French side. The centre-back quite literally rose to the occasion and headed home the evening’s winner, as Old Trafford erupted.

This isn’t the first time Maguire has popped up with a crucial header either, and at this point in United’s season, Redknapp apparently trusts the defender’s threat in front of goal more than he does the team’s actual attackers.

“Do you know what I would do, I’d stick with Harry Maguire up front. I would, I swear,” the former West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur manager told talkSPORT.

“He gets on the end of things, he’s a target. I’d work with him there for the next couple of weeks. They haven’t got anybody. The other boy [Rasmus Hojlund] can’t score a goal.

“I’d get him on diagonals. I’d get people around him. He’d be like a Crouchy [Peter Crouch] or something. He’s unstoppable in the air. We’ve seen it over the years. I think Maguire could do a job short term.”

Harry Maguire addresses struggles at Man United

Maguire himself has addressed the struggles United have faced this season. Following his Europa League heroics, the England international spoke to the media about United’s performance and how he feels they ‘haven’t been good enough’ on some occasions this season.

Reflecting on the late nature of United’s comeback, Maguire said: “We can't be doing that and be leaving it to turn it around in that situation. But it does show great spirit, fight, togetherness, and that's the one thing this group of lads is doing, they're giving everything,” the England international said.

“Sometimes I think this year it's not been good enough and rightly so, it hasn't, but they are giving everything.

“You guys can see that we're probably short on attackers. Tonight, if we've got two attackers in the squad in Garners [Alejandro Garnacho] and Rasmus [Hojlund] and they give everything out there. I think Garners was on his last legs and he was up and down the pitch numerous times.

“So I think we are short on attackers, we lost Josh [Zirkzee], so if he asks me to go up there, I'm willing to go up there. I do see myself as a threat and I do feel like I can score a goal up there.”
