Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen and 3 other players to leave Man Utd this summer as things stand
Manchester United are set to overhaul their squad this summer
Manchester United are preparing for their Europa League round of 16 clash with Real Sociedad on Thursday with the Red Devils’ season now hinging on their progress in Europe. Ruben Amorim’s side are well out of contention for finishing in the European spots in the Premier League and are now out of the FA Cup after losing to Fulham on penalties last weekend.

A huge overhaul of the current squad is expected in the summer although United will not be able to fork out seemingly-unlimited amounts of transfer fees as they look to stay on the right side of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. Summer exits will provide Amorim with money to spend as he aims to recruit players better suited to his 3-4-3 formation.
It is a system that worked well for Amorim at Sporting CP and the United boss has been unwilling to compromise with his methods so far despite a poor run of form amid a number of injury problems.
Lindelof ‘wanted’ for Benfica return
Defender Victor Lindelof is one player set to leave Old Trafford this summer as his contract is set to come to and end. He joined United from Benfica in 2017 and is approaching eight years at the club. He has 270 appearances for the Red Devils under his belt, with four goals in that time. He made 72 appearances for Benfica before he made his switch to Manchester.
Portuguese newspaper Record has reported that Benfica are aiming to bring the defender back to the Liga Portugal on a free transfer for next season. Benfica are currently battling Ruben Amorim’s former side Sporting CP for the top-flight title.
Lindelof has made just six appearances in the Premier League this season, with all of those coming from the bench. He came on late during the win over Ipswich Town last week. His last appearance before that was the Manchester derby, as a combination of injury problems and being left out of the starting XI contributed to his lack of action.
Four other United players poised to leave
It has previously been reported that Christian Eriksen is surplus to requirements at United and will not have his contract renewed. The Denmark international is seeking pastures new. He is set to be joined in the Red Devils departure lounge by Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton, who are both in the final months of their deals at Old Trafford. Heaton has been the club’s third-choice goalkeeper since returning to Old Trafford in 2021. At 38, he is set to move on.
Evans turned 37 in January but has spent the last number of months sidelined by injury and is not set to have his deal renewed at United. One player set to leave as things stand but who could remain at the club is young goalkeeper Elyh Harrison. The goalkeeper was recalled from his loan spell with Chester in January and has been on the bench for United’s last four Premier League games. However, his current contract is set to run out at the end of the season. The Red Devils still have time to extend it if they wish to do so, however.
