Liam Gallagher accused of ‘fishing’ for Manchester United fans on Twitter after club sack Ole Gunnar Solskjær
Oasis singer and Manchester City supporter, Liam Gallagher, has been accused of teasing Manchester United fans after the club sacked manager Ole Gunnar Solskaer on Sunday morning.
Solskjaer, 48, was appointed caretaker manager of Manchester United in December 2018.
The Norwegian went on to sign a three-and-a-half-year deal in 2019.
There has been significant uncertainty around Solskjaer’s future for weeks given a run of poor results.
Many fans expected the club to give Solskjaer his marching orders a few weeks ago when United lost 5-0 at home to Liverpool, which was followed up by a humiliating home loss to City two weeks later.
Just as the news of the Norwegian’s managerial demise began to filter through on social media, Manchester singer/songwriter, Liam Gallagher tweeted “Cuckoo FC” to his 3.5 million followers on Twitter.
One Liam Gallagher fan who also supports bitter rivals Manchester City responded to Gallagher’s tweet saying: “I’d of given him a lifetime contract he was doing a fine job!,” joked the man.
Another fan appearing to share in Gallagher’s delight at United’s woes joked that the new manager of could be “Bonehead” aka Paul Arthurs, the rhythm guitarist in Oasis from 1991-1999.
Solskjaer departs United with the club in seventh position in the Premier League - six points behind rivals Manchester City who also have a game in hand.
Former Real Madrid manager and player, Zinedine Zidane (12/5), is the favourite to replace Solskjaer with money for both current caretaker boss, Michael Carrick and former Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers who are currently trading at 7/2 and 5/1 respectively.
