Man Utd youngster linked with Championship move 'agrees new deal' at Old Trafford

Manchester United youngster Joe Hugill is reportedly close to signing an extended contract with the club.

The striker, who impressed in the youth side last season, has already netted four goals in five matches for the Under-21s this term, as well as scoring in pre-season against Leeds United. Hugill was also selected as part of the senior squad in the USA, during the club’s tour last summer.

As per the Manchester Evening News, the 19-year-old’s performances in front of goal have earned him a new contract at the club, with Huguill ‘close to agreeing to a new three-year deal, which will include the option of another year’.

It follows a report in the Daily Mail which claimed Hugill had agreed a new contract at Old Trafford, amid interest from Sunderland. The forward joined United from the Black Cats in 2020, and the North-East club are said to be keen on bringing him back on loan in January.

Hugill has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Red Devils, despite his impact at youth level. The teenager has ousted Charlie McNeill as the club’s first-choice striker in the Under-21 side, with the latter heading out on loan to Stevenage in the final days of the transfer window.

Erik ten Hag has Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Rasmus Hojlund as his senior options in the centre-forward role, and despite the plethora of absentees currently in the squad, all three are available for the trip to Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils will be without 12 players for the Champions League opener on Wednesday night, with Harry Maguire the latest player to pull out with a knock on Tuesday.
