'I always give everything' - Matheus Cunha compares himself to Manchester United legend 'everyone loved'
Matheus Cunha says it is a dream come true to play for Manchester United after he grew up watching the team as a child in Brazil. United have completed the signing of Cunha on an initial five-year deal, with the option of an additional year, after they agreed to pay his £62.5 million release clause.
The 26-year-old had no doubts about joining United even after they recorded their lowest finish of the Premier League era and failed to earn Champions League qualification. Ruben Amorim identified Cunha as a top target for the summer window and the player relishes the chance to bring glory back to Old Trafford.

Cunha looking to emulate Rooney
Matheus Cunha covered a wide range of topics in his first interview as a Manchester United player and also claimed he has similarities with club legend Wayne Rooney. The 39-year-old is the record goalscorer for the club, where he won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, Club World Cup and the FA Cup.
It would take some doing for Cunha to even achieve a fraction of what Rooney did in a United shirt, but he insists he will do everything in his power to be a success. When asked which United players he used to look up to, he told MUTV: “It’s always hard to talk about because I remember the whole squad at the time that I started to watch!
“You know, in the front, Rooney — wow! Someone that I think I have a lot of particulars in my game, because I always give everything. I remember he was the no.10 and everyone loved the skills of the player in this shirt, but he always brings more. He goes to the grass [slide tackle] to take the ball, this kind of energy inside of him was a big example. Of course, I can mention a lot of the players.

I can imagine the team, you know, it started with [Edwin] Van der Sar in the goal, Rio Ferdinand, with [Nemanja] Vidic, the defenders. Paul Scholes, wow, [Michael] Carrick. The team for me, honestly, was a big impact for my teenage years.”
